The previous post introduced a certain class of hedge funds that invest in short sales known as long/short equity hedge funds. This post will introduce a class of hedge funds known as multi-strategy hedge funds. As the name implies, these funds employ a variety of strategies which could potentially include investing in short positions. Multi-strategy hedge funds have certain benefits such as increased diversification, however on the flipside it is possible that these funds command a low return compared to other funds during an economic peak. Additionally, with a somewhat ambiguous investment thesis, more free reign is given to the portfolio manager and team which could be good or bad depending on the quality of the manager.
Below is a list of some of the largest USA based Multi-strategy Hedge Funds. Due to length this post is broken into two parts, and this is part one of two.
